The bed is used in the daily life of people for the longest time. Renewal design of bedreflects social progress and cultural development from one side. China ancient bed is made ofwood, not easy to save, so it is difficult to make acomprehensive and in-depth study. In thearchaeological data, The Dunhuang mural had a large number of images about religious systemand the secular life, some of bed images provid valuable information for the development of theChinese ancient bed and related factors. Therefore, the author uses the archaeological excavationof existing physical,ancient literature and other precious materials, analyses the representativebeds of The Dunhuang mural more comprehensive,system and deeper.The first part of the thesis is to date back to the origin of the bed styles in The Central Plainsregion before cut The Dunhuang Grottoes. In-depth analysis of the impact of furniture historyculture and foreign factors in The Dunhuang area on the mural bed images.The second part through the analysis on the existing image data of The Dunhuang mural.Collecting and sorting the data out, researching the bed of The Dunhuang mural classificated.Making use of the research methods of the history of art, reading and analysing thecharacteristics and decoration styles of beds. Combined with the method of Iconography,Philology and Archaeology, combing the development of two different types of bed evolution inThe Dunhuang mural.The third part, analysing three beds which are the most representative styles after theblending of Chinese and Western culture. Discussing the significance of cultural exchange of theThe Central Plains region with The Western Regions,Central Asia, West Asia, India and othercountries.The fourth part, analysing the effect of structure and decoration patterns of the bed in theDunhuang mural to furniture design in the future. Inspiring the furniture design of East Asia,European countries in the future with design symbol of the bed.The above researches have the certain theory significance to establish scientific and perfectsystem of the Chinese bed style. And the practical significance to guide the future of furnituredesign with understanding Contemporary furniture design and exploring its history.
