Hymenochaete s.l. is an important kind of wood-decaying fungi, and it together with Phellinus s.l. and Inonotus s.l. are the three biggest genera of Hymenochaetaceae. However, compared to the two other genera, Hymenochaete s.l. is under-collected and studied in the neotropical areas. In this study, we carried out a complete taxonomic and phylogenetic study on Hymenochaete and its allied genera. About 1000 specimens were studied, most of which were collected from the different forests during last three years, and those deposited at herbarium of Beijing Forestry University (BJFC). Phylogenetic analyses were carried out based on multigenes (ITS, nrLSU and mtSSU) by using different methods and softwares (PAUP* 4.0b10 and MrBayes 3.1.2).Through this research, a new species:Hymenochaete biformisetosa was discovered and described. The phylogenetic results indicated that the ITS and mtSSU were most useful in discrimination species of Hymenochaete, and the genera of Hymenochaete and Hymenochaetopsis formed two distinct clade in the phylogenetic trees. The illustrated descriptions of 62 species of Hymenochaete, and their voucher specimens, hosts, distribution and remarks were provided in this thesis. The phylogenetic relationships and morphological distictions between Hymenochaete and Hymenochaetopsis were also discussed.
