Stenopsychidae, one of the smallest families in Annulipalpia, Trichoptera, has totally 3 genera,107 known species around the world. However, only one genus, Stenopsyche,62 known species distributed in China. This thesis is composed of 3 portions. The first portion give a brief introduction to taxonomic synopsis, biology, morphology and distributions of Stenopsychidae around the world and China.7 species of the genus Stenopsyche collected in China were described and illustrated, of which are Stenopsyche acanthoclada Xu, Wang& Sun 2014, Stenopsyche bistratosa Xu, Sun & Wang 2013, Stenopsyche cervaria Xu, Sun & Wang 2013, Stenopsyche ningshanensis Xu, Wang & Sun 2014, Stenopsyche jinxiuensis Xu, Wang & Sun 2014, Stenopsyche sinuolata Xu, Sun & Wang 2013, Stenopsyche tianlinensis Xu, Sun & Wang 2013 and 1 new species, Stenopsyche huangshanensis sp. nov. Type specimens are deposited in Insect Museum of Nanjing Agricultrural University. These 8 species were assigned to 4 species groups according to the available species group system classified by Schmid. The male genitalia Stenopsyche bistratosa, Stenopsyche sinuolata, Stenopsyche huangshanensis sp. nov. were assigned to Stenopsyche apiguna Species Group, brought the species number of the specie group to 10. Stenopsyche fissa Navas 1932 was assigned to Stenopsyche marmorata Species Group, brought the species number of the specie group to 15. Stenopsyche chagyaba Tian 1985, Stenopsyche cervaria Xu, Sun & Wang 2013, Stenopsyche muppin Malicky 2012 were assigned to Stenopsyche martynovi Species Group, brought the species number of the specie group to 15. Stenopsyche tianlinensis Xu, Sun & Wang 2013 was assigned to Stenopsyche pubescens Species Group, brought the species number of the specie group to 16. And Stenopsyche acanthoclada Xu, Wang & Sun 2014, Stenopsyche dentata Navas 1930, Stenopsyche formosana Kobayashi 1987, Stenopsyche jinxiuensis Xu, Wang & Sun 2014, Stenopsyche ningshanensis Xu, Wang & Sun 2014 were assigned to Stenopsyche simplex Species Group, brought the species number of the specie group to 17. Distribution maps of each species group of Chinese Stenopsyche are presented. In the second portion,26 samples of males, females and larvae of Stenopsyche were sequenced and analysed. A total of 5 larval species were deliminated by mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI)sequence data. Of which four species ofStenopsyce angustata Martynov 1930, Stenopsyce huangshanensis sp. nov., Stenopsyce tienmushanensis Hwang 1957, Stenopsyce navasi Ulmer 1926 were successfully associated between larvae and male and femaleadults. However, one larvae species wasfailed to associate with a known adult speceies., All the five larval speices and four female species were described and illustrated. A key to these 5 larval specieswas given. In the third portion, larval keys to 84 genera of Chinses Trichoptera were edited. Character photos of available larvae were taken. Larvae were also deposited in the Insect Museum of Nanjing Agricultrual University.Due to distribution of Stenopsyche is endemic, most species of the genus are found in China. So it is convinent to study the taxonomy of the adults and larvae. However there is an imbalance between larvae and adults in the genus Stenopsyche. How to promote the development of the laval-adult associations is an urgent problem. Melacular methods can be easier to associate with larval-adult than before. What’s more, accelerating the development of larvae classification can improve itself in the role of water monitoring, and further expands the application range of benthic funna in China. The 7 species and 1 new species with their diagnostic characteristics and type localities are as follows.Stenopsyche tianlinensis Xu, Sun & Wang 2013Length of fore-wing:23.0-23.5mm.The new species belongs to Stenopsyche pubescens Group. It is similar to Stenopsyche fissa Navas,1932, but the male genitalia of new species differ from those of the latter in that:(1) lateral processes of segment IX in new species are short and obtuse, but are acute in the latter; (2) in dorsal view, intermediate appendages of the new species are nipple-like, but they are slender lobes and obviously pointed downwards in the latter.Etymology:The specific epithet is named from the Chinese name of type locality, "Tianlin".Materials examined.2♂♂(holotype and paratype), Guangxi Province, Tianlin County, Laoshan Forest,5 June 2002, collected by Jiang Guo-Fang.Stenopsyche cervaria Xu, Sun & Wang 2013Length of fore-wing:21.0-21.5mm.The new specie belongs to Stenopsyche martynovi Group, and it is easily diagnosed by the rangiferoid shape of the intermediate appendages, especially when viewed dorsally.Etymology:The specific name is derived from Latin word cervarius, meaning rangiferoid, referring to the rangiferoid shape of the intermediate appendages in dorsal view.Materials examined.2♂♂(holotype and paratype), Guizhou Province, Fangjing Mount, Management Station of Heiwan Lake (alt. 530m),8 June 1995, collected by Sun Chang-Hai and Wang Bei-Xin. Stenopsyche bistratosa Xu, Sun & Wang 2013Length of fore-wing:27.5-28.0mm.The new species belongs to Stenopsyche apiguna Group, and it resembles Stenopsyche apiguna Schmid,1969 in the shape of superior arms, but can be diagnosed by that:(1) segment X of the new species divided into a upper layer and a lower one, in dorsal view lower layer is tongue-like, longer than upper layer, but in the latter, segment X is not divided, only with its distal end somewhat trifurcate; (2) intermediate appendages of the new species in dorsal view each with a fingerlike lobe on lateral margin, rather than with two fingerlike lobes on lateral margin as in the latter.Etymology:The specific is named from Latin prefix bi-, meaning two or double and Latin word stratosus, meaning layer, referring to segment X of the new species divided into an upper layer and a lower one.Holotype 6♂♂(holotype and paratype), Guangxi Province, Tianlin County, Weihuo Laoshan Forest (alt.1400m),4 June 2002, collected by Yang Xiu-Juan; Guangxi Province, Tianlin County, Laoshan Forest (alt.1300m),4 June 2002, collected by Jiang Guo-Fang; Guangxi Province, Tianlin County, Laoshan Forest (alt. 1400m),4 June 2002, collected by Yang Xiu-Juan.Stenopsyche sinuolata Xu, Sun & Wang 2013Length of fore-wing:26.5-27.0 mm.The male genitalia of the new species are similar to those of Stenopsyche triangularis Schmid,1959, but differ in that:(1) lateral processes of segment IX in new species acute and curved upwards, but in the latter they are straight and slender. (2) intermediate appendages in new species each with a small, setae-bearing lobe and a digitate process posterior to it, but in the latter each with only digitate process.Etymology:The specific is named from Latin word sinuolatus, meaning cuvred, referring to lateral processes of segment IX acute and curved upwards.Materials examined.5(?),9(?)(holotype and paratype), Shaanxi Province, Ningshan County, Xunyangba Town, southeastern 8 km, Xiangtan Brook (alt.1520m), 6 June 1998, collected by Yang Lian-Fang and John C. Morse; Shaanxi Province, Liuba County, Miaotaizi, Bao River (alt.1400m),7 June 1998, collected by Yang Lian-Fang and John C. Morse.Stenopsyche ningshanensis Xu, Wang & Sun 2014Length of fore-wing 19.0 mm.The new species belongs to the first subgroup as indicated by having its intermediate appendage straight and narrow. It is very similar to Stenopsyche chinensis Hwang 1957 from Fujian, China, but differs from the latter in that (1) the intermediate appendage nearly reaches the distal end of segment X (extending beyond the distal end in Stenopsyche chinensis); (2) the distal end of segment X is rounded in dorsal view (truncate in Stenopsyche chinensis); (3) the lateral margin of the intermediate appendage is sinuate in dorsal view (straight in Stenopsyche chinensis).Etymology. The specific epithet is from the Chinese name of the type locality, Ningshan County, Shaanxi Province.Materials examined. 1(?)(holotype), Shaanxi Province, Ning-shan County, Xunyang Dam, Xiangtan Ditch,33.546(?),108.552(?), alt.1520 m,6 June 1998, by black light trap, Ma Yun & Wang Miao.Stenopsyche acanthoclada Xu, Wang & Sun 2014Length of forewing 21.3mm.The new species belongs to the second subgroup, as indicated by having the intermediate appendage curved mesad, and is similar to Stenopsyche stoetzneri Dohler 1929 from Sichuan, China. This species can be distinguished from the latter by the male genitalia:(1) the dorsum of segment X is much broader than the distal half of the intermediate appendage (they are equal in width in Stenopsyche stoetzneri); (2) the intermediate appendage bears an acute process in the middle of the lateral margin (absent in Stenopsyche stoetzneri).Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin word acanthocladus, referring to the tooth of the intermediate appendage in lateral view.Materials examined. 3(?)Oolotype and paratype), Guang-xi Province, Tian-lin County, Liang-ping, Mt. Li-nao,24.476(?),106.361(?), alt 140 m,28 May 2002, by black light trap, collected by Jiang Guo-fang.
