Philotamidae is one of large families in the order Trichoptera,belonging to the suborder Annulipalpia and superfamily Philopotamoidea.Philotamidae includes 3 subfamiles,22 genera,about 1219 species and 7 fossil genera and 15 fossil species before this thesis.Philotamidae widely distributed in all zoogeographic regions.In China,the family Philopotamidae has 2 subfamiles,5 genera and about 80 species before this thesis.Larvae of Philopotamidae are aquatic and favorite with the clean water,frequently used as biomonitoring indicators for streams,lakes and ponds.Philopotamidae is characterized from five-segmented maxillary palpswith the longest slender and soft 5th segment,which wasalso far longer than the 4th segment.Head has three ocelli.Mesonotum has no swart.This thesis included 82 species in 5 genera of 2 subfamilies.Philopotaminae and Chimarrinae,of the family Philopotamidae of the Trichoptera from China are listed and checked,their distribution characteristic is discussed as well.Among them,82 species including 2 new to science are described and figured.In addition,1 new species group in the genus Gunungiella Ulmer,1913 are recognized and suggested.Further,keys to all genera and subfamily as well as species in the family of China are provided.At the same time,this study also analyzed the zoogeographical of the family Philopotamidae from China.The 2 subfamilies are Chimarrinae Rambur,1842 and Philopotaminae Stephens,1829?The 5 genera are Genus Dolophilodes Ulmer,1909;Genus Gunungiella Ulmer,1913;Genus Kisaura Ross,1956;Genus Wormaldia McLachlan,1865;Genus Chimarra Stephens,1829.2 new species are Gunungiella lingnanensis.nov and Gunungiella weiae.nov.The new species group is Gunungiella saptadachi.group,nov.This thesis examined about 5000 specimens.All specimens in this study including most types are deposited in the insect Collection of Nanjing Agricultural University,China.
