Francis Bacon’s Theory Of The Relationship Between Science And Engineering Technology

Francis Bacon has been put forward as early as 400 years ago the proposition "knowledge is power", is known for us, even no new idea.However, the "Science" of contemporary interdisciplinary(Sciencestudies) and "technical research"(Technology studies), have put forward the corresponding "technical Science"(techno- Science) this new concept of constructivism epistemology.This brings us to re-examine the ancient concept of "knowledge is power" of the new Angle of view, therefore, through to the proposition "knowledge is power", will lead us to further study the relationship between science and engineering technology since modern times, and the study of historical theory and practice to provide important theoretical enlightenment.This article altogether consists of six parts:The first part, introduction: mainly to this article research topic background,research significance and the present situation of the domestic and foreign related research are discussed, and on this basis, describes the idea of this study, the content and the thesis framework and innovation.The second part, in the ancient western philosophy- the relationship between science and engineering technology for analysis object, from Plato and Aristotle to the middle ages about the relationship between "theory" and "practice" idea, trying to clarify the ancient theory of knowledge tradition of "the theory of light practice".Ancient western theoretical science always along the ontology(god) and metaphysics to cosmology, natural philosophy(physics) a top-down path to construct.And has been influenced by Aristotle on knowledge of the rule of thirds,namely "theory"(episteme), "practice"(praxis), "making"(poiesis) among not only from each other and no relationship. Can say, in the long years, "theory of knowledge" is not "use".The third part, through to the understanding of the "new tool", separated from philosophy in modern science history of independent development background, to illustrate bacon’s criticism of the original theory of knowledge:1, with "four illusion said" the revelation of human cognitive illusions to carry on the strict; 2, with "syllogism deduction method" as the core of Aristotle "tool theory" in the critique of metaphysics: 3, cloaked in theology of natural philosophy in the medieval scholasticism relentless criticism. Trying to overcome the theoretical meditation has nothing to do with the utility theory of knowledge tradition, to find and change and engineering technology to control the forces of nature, "make" activities related to the "new science".The fourth part, mainly discusses the concept of scientific knowledge of bacon and immanent meaning: "knowledge is power" that people must be operable "scientific knowledge" to regain control of natural ability.Bacon is established on the basis of sensory experience and induction of "science technicalization" knowledge, not only for its operability, usefulness to ensure its own be attributed, in turn by "scientific technology" as conquest and control the force of the nature.The fifth part, analyzed the proposition of "knowledge is power" reality impact and great theoretical value, and the concept of "scientific" engineering technology "sciences" tendency of the reflection and criticism, for science and humanities in the engineering technology integration, in order to benefit the progress of the society and the development of human beings.The sixth part as the conclusion, summarizes the conclusions of this study, and points out its shortcomings and the direction of future research.
