Electric maps, positioning and navigation have become the most popular products and technologies closely linked with daily life, and an integral part of the Internet of things. Nowadays, with the construction and development of society, all kinds of large building such as airport, shopping center, office building, movie, theater, etc., and all types of large park such as technology park, museum, exhibition center, are row upon row. The time people spending in large indoor space has also grown dramatically, so that, the demand for more precise LBS Push service makes indoor maps become one of the hottest research directions in LBS. The complexity and variability of buildings urgent need a toolkit that independent of outdoor maps to manufacture and update indoor maps completely and quickly.While some well-known map providers have some indoor map functions, but these indoor maps are limited to2-dimension. With the rapid development of computer technology especially the3-dimension simulation, computer graphics and virtual reality technology, we hope to show indoor maps to users intuitively and vividly by the way of3-dimensional modeling. However, there are many challenges in the production of3-dimensional map. Modeling the process of data storage is complex, and the amount to calculate data are large, and the3-dimensional data is not compatible to2-dimensional data. After lots of research on modeling methods of indoor maps and3-dimensional maps, in this paper, we designed a data storage format suitable to3-dimensional indoor maps. This structure is compatible with the existed2-dimensional indoor map data, which not only helps to analysis and find3-dimensional space, but also support hierarchical display and seamless link with outdoor map. The amount of calculation is small and the updating process is easy. Based on the storage structure, we designed a3-dimensional indoor maps manufacturing system by using ArcGIS Engine. The system consists of3-dimensional map drawing system and application data conversion system. In the drawing system, we developed a VMapToolbar plug-in tool for ArcMap to draw2-dimensional maps quickly and associate data; we also designed a data output procedure from2-dimensional map to3-dimensional map based on ArcScene; in additional, we achieved multi-floor seamless overlay by calibration information between floors. In the conversion system, we first designed a basic3-dimensional maps data structure suitable to publish the3-dimensional data. And then we designed an application data format conversion tool to converse the basic3-dimensional data storage structure to data formats that suitable to smart phones and web3D application platform.The introduced system is already used to produce3-dimensional indoor maps data. The output data are used in the3D map of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and the3D map of pear orchard in wisdom agriculture. This system also has been delivered to the Everfound.Inc as the3-dimensional indoor maps maker, and provides data to well-known map providers such as Baidu and360Inc.
