In recent years, climatic anomaly occurs frequently and such extreme weather events cause a variety of meteorological disasters, in which typhoons is considered one of the most important ones. In particular, our nation’s coastline is so lingering that it is vulnerable to typhoons disasters. These disasters can severely restrict the sustainable development of our society and economy, affect the normal life of the people and bring about huge losses to the lives and property of the people. Therefore, loss assessment of typhoon disasters turns into the problem to be solved by many scholars. And effective loss assessment is of great significance to provide the scientific basis for developing disaster prevention and reduction policies and carrying out its work.Lots of scholars at home and abroad have using many different standards and methods in the researches on the losses of typhoon disasters. On the basis of these researches, there are three steps in the research on typhoon disaster losses in this paper. Firstly, we conduct spatial simulation about GDP (gross domestic product) of2012in Zhejiang Province by the use of the land use data and NPP-VIIRS nighttime lights data. Its fine results fully reflect that GDP output is different in different land types and on different lighting indexes and also there are value differences in the inside of each administrative unit. This shows such data has higher credibility and can be supported to establish the direct economic loss model. Secondly, we comprehensively select evaluation factors from four aspects, including hazard factors, environment of developing hazards, hazard-effected bodies and capacity of disaster prevention and reduction. In the process of each typhoon disaster, we calculate the comprehensive evaluation index by using the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and establish its relationship with the direct economic loss index. Thereby the model of the direct economic loss assessment is established. The results show a good correlation between the comprehensive evaluation index of typhoon disaster and the direct economic loss index and its correlation coefficient is0.866. Finally, we adopt disaster data to verify the accuracy of the model. Compared with the previous results, our model has a good feasibility for its error in predicted values of direct economic losses is within a reasonable range. An innovation way is that the NPP-VIIRS is used in the refinement of the GDP simulation in the study; Compared with previous studies, it selected more comprehensive and accurate indicators, the results has a guiding role.
