Research On The Organization Of Historical Geographic Name Data In Geodatabase

When conducting studies related to Chinese historical geographic names andtheir changes, researchers are oftentimes challenged by the complexities of changetypes and the different change times. Geographic names are created by human being,and the history of them can reflect the history and culture of human being. So it isimportant to manage the changes of geographic names. To make it more effective,people should use the computer and the technology of database.This article proposes a spatial-temporal framework for geographic names of JilinProvince. The time range is from1907when Jilin Province was established to2012,and the space range contain all of the regions that the Jilin Province had administrated.First of all, the main features of historical geographic names were analyzed, and thendifferent change types of them were divided according to the changes of thecharacteristics. The concept of geographic names’ life period, survival period wereintroduced and improved.As a reference for the spatial-temporal model of historical geographic names,several main spatio-temporal data model were analyzed, and their respectiveadvantages and disadvantages were summed up. With the thought ofobjected-oriented and event-based models, spatial-temporal data model for historicalgeographic names was designed and described. Based on these models andgeodatabase, the historical geographic name was built. According to the database thatwas constructed, the spatial-temporal query of historical geographic names wascompleted, which indicated that the model built in this article was effective.
