Research On Spatial-temporal Data Modeling Of Urban Historical Place Name

Place names are proper names of natural or human geography entities at specific locations given by people.Urban historical place names are place names passed down from the history,or disappeared place names used in history,which reflect the natural and cultural characteristics of the city in history.They serve as the history testimony of a city's advancement and contain abundant historical and cultural information.They are the basic spatial-temporal framework for reconstructing historical geography,playing an important role in linking historical events,historical figures and other descriptive information.Place names tend to occur various types of changes in the process from setting up to withdraw.In order to keep complete placename-information before and after the change in each period,to trace the evolution of place names,and to query place names in any time section,this article will explore how to find,confirm,gather historical place names and related attribute information from the historical documents,Solve the problem of fuzzy spatial-temporal description of place names,and sort out the order between the place names,then establish an effective spatio-temporal data model of urban historical place names.Based on the theory and method of historical geography,this study analyzed the temporal and spacial characteristics of urban historical place names,discussed the difference of urban place names classification between the past and the present,solved problems of the temporal and spacial uncertainty,and the description of evolution of place names.Based on predecessor's work,this paper built a classification and coding system of urban historical place names,created a spatio-temporal data model of urban historical place names based on the life cycle of place name,and finally created a placename database and information system of JianKang in six dynasty.The main work and research is as follows:(1)The source and collection way of urban historical names were discussed in this study,and the features of the semantic features and the categories were analysed at first.Then,based on the existing classification standards,the urban historical place names classification and coding system was built utilizing the hybrid classificationmethod.(2)The temporal features of urban historical place names and the records of the life cycle of the place names were explored.First,time representation method of city historic place names was discussed:taking "Year" as time granularity,using the AD chronology to record time,and establishing transformation model of AD chronology with other chronologies.Second,analyze the general description of time in historical materials and set the corresponding quantization rules.Third,split the begin/end time of life cycle into begin/end_min and begin/end_max according to the uncertainty of description of time.Finally,the timetable of the historical names of the cities was created based on the life cycle of the place names,and the relationship which is linked with the main table by the ID was related.(3)Research on the spatial positioning method and the establishment of spatial relations table about the urban historical place name.Based on spatial relations of directions,topological relations,distance relationship and so on,This study analyzed the spatial features of urban historical names,proposed the method of relative positioning for place names in the current unified coordinate system at first,.And then digitised according to the temporal variation of spatial objects of place names and setted up a series of space tables at the same time.The research results could be used for the queries and exhibitions of old maps and spatial object names.(4)To establish the evolution tables for urban historical place names.Toponym evolution is the only way to display the temporal and spatial variation of place names.This study mainly aimed at those complex changing place names,tracing the occurrence and development of the place names,exploring the change time,type of change and change reasons.Besides,the research used the method of space-time combination to design the evolution of the place names,which could record the evolution of the place names and display by time axis.(5)The construction of spatio-temporal data model and information system for urban historical place names.At first,the spatio-temporal data model of urban historical place names was built according to the temporal and spatial evolution and life cycle of place names.And then,the information system of place names for JianKang in six dynasty was built.The purpose of the research is to realize the rapid inquiry of the place names,display the temporal and spatial evolution of time section name or tracing the name of a single place,and provide the function of the old map query and time conversion.
