With the development of economic environment , Chinese retail enterprises are facing harder competence situation .The retail enterprises between the same or the different business paterns have harsh competition . In order to gain competitive advantages in the violent market competition, The retail enterprises must foster their own competency. Firstly,the article makes a definition on competency , core competency and competency of retail enterprises.Then the article analysises four main behaviors of retail enterprises, that is , the ability to gain customer's royalty,the ability to cooperate with suppliers,the ability of informationization and the ability to cut off cost. Based on the above research on competence theory, this dissertation analysises the existing competence situation of Chinese retail enterprises in detail. In addition, it gives detailed discription on general situation of foreign retail enterprises.Then, it makes a comparison between Chinese and foreign retail enterprises in scale,management, software,enterprises positioning,human resources, brand,etc.At last, it makes a conclusion that ,in order to improve competency, it is a good way for Chinese retail enterprises to find the differences between Chinese retail enterprises and foreign enterprises and adjusts their strategies.Based on the above discssion, this dissertation gives valuable strategies to improve competency of Chinese retail enterprises.
