EPC is a commonly used project management mode in large scale petrochemical projects. The engineering design dominates the whole project under this management mode. From feasibility analysis to putting into production, the design work effect the project in the whole process and is related to project optimization, equipment procurement, installation, production preparation. It also can effectively controls the schedule execution, shortens the project duration, improves the project quality and controls the project investment. Therefore the research and practical application of methods and theories of engineering project schedule management are the guarantee for the project execution and have import meaning to company to reach its scheduled objective. This paper is based on the ground construction project of CB natural gas field and detailedly describes the practical application of the modern project management. After the brief introduction about CB project, project characteristic, and the relevant organization mechanism and human resource policy, the author analyze the opportunities and threatens will be faced during the project, and the strengths and weaknesses of C Company. Finally the author draws the conclusion of that, fully exertion of the traditional strength of engineering design and strengthening the management of design schedule are the important factors to ensure the successful implementation of the CB project. Based on the conclusion, the author puts much efforton analyzing the characteristics and risks of the design schedule management. AHP (analytic hierarchy process) is also used to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze some important factors that will impact the CB project design schedule. In the following chapters, the author focus on the discussion of project scheduling, progress control and schedule/cost control, and put the theories and method of critical path method (CPM), network planning and earned value analysis into practical project application by using P3 software and Excel as analysis tools. The final result is positive and could be a reference for such kind of project schedule management.
