With the appearance of the Internet, digital media in China has enjoyed the rapid development, which leads to a great upsurge in the setting up of digital media speciality in Chinese universities and colleges to train personnel for digital media industry because of the great demand for professionals of this field. The newly-emerging digital media industry sets high demands on.the professionals:the technical approach, artistic awareness and the humanities, which calls forth the training of versatile personnel who are creative and have a broad horizon.On the basis of the marketing research and demand for professionals of digital media as well as the present situation of the training of the professionals at home and abroad, this paper emphasizes the significance of general education in the training. The curriculum structure of general education is composed of two parts:core courses for all college students and subject curricula for majors of all digital media specialities.A comparative analysis on the goals of training of digital media specialities in some universities reveals divergences in aims of general education. General education in research-oriented universities aims to the preparation for advanced study of students, while in application-oriented universities, general education serves the preparation for the students' development in digital media industry, which explains differences in characteristics and focuses of general curricula in different universities.Based on the positioning of personnel training of application-oriented universities and the demand from the digital media industry, learning from fruits of digital media education and research at home and aboard, this paper discusses the framework of general curricula, teachers and editing of teaching materials of the digital media speciality in application-oriented universities. Moreover, the author of this paper sums up characteristics of the general curricula framework, which includes not only its demands for students' attitude, knowledge, skills and quality but also the focus on training students'quality of solving problems and application.
