Programmable Logic Controller is a industrial control devices specially designed forapplication in the industrial environments. It has many advantages such as high reliability, stronganti-interference, flexible combination, simple programming, convenient to operate and wideapplications. However, each PLC manufacturers stand alone, not only the hardware constructionbut also the software design both lack of compatibility.By analysis the generation and trends of Programmable Logic Controller, and theapplication problems in industrial fields. In order to solve the problems that different brands ofPLC programs can't be reused, According to the characteristics of PLC programming languagesand the development realities of soft PLC, proposed the view called general programming. Thecore idea is to program using symbolic addresses, program conversion between different PLCbramds, the modular program of frequently used functions, and the data communicationsbetween PC and PLC. Then detailed analysis the theory of various parts, provide theoreticalguidance and software design work in preparation for the general control platform of PLC.Based on this theory, using Visual Basic software to develop a general control platform,Achieved a degree of commonality among the Mitsubishi FX series, the Siemens S7-200 seriesand Omron CPM1Aseries. Improved the reusability of PLC program. Finally, by simulation teston Siemens and Omron programming software, achieved the commonality of basic logic controlfunctions among the three types of PLC.
