FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) is the printed circuit made of flexible insulation. In recent years, it has been widely used in cell phones, laptops, digital cameras, PDA, LCM, and many other products. However, fitting FPC into these products is usually done by human hand in the electronics assembly line. In order to achieve high speed and precision of automated fitting, a real-time positioning system and a motion control system are needed.The main work of this paper is to design an image acquisition and processing system for FPC fitting. The system can locate the FPC accurately, then the location is transmitted to the motion control system to complete FPC fitting. This system obtaining FPC image from image sensor, using the FPGA for FPC image acquisition and the image processing, eventually obtain the location of the current FPC.The system includes three parts: processor platform, image acquisition and storage, image processing. The processor platform is mainly to achieve some basic functions, including human-computer interaction, etc., and the processor MicroBlaze is implemented in FPGA. For image acquisition, signals are generated by FPGA to drive image sensor, and ADC converter is used to convert the image signals, then a correlated double sampling is implemented , which can correct the sampling image signal and produce the image data, finally image information is stored into SDRAM. Image processing, such as filtering, binaryzation are realized by the FPGA hardware logical unit, template matching method is used to determine the location of positioning holes on the FPC, which indicate the location of FPC.
