Nowadays, the 3rd generation mobile telecommunications has developed prosperously in China. As Chinese own intellectual property 3G standard, TD-SCDMA technology enjoys wide and energetic supports during the last 10 years. At the same time, the construction of TD-SCDMA networks has made great progress as well. On the other hand, with the increasing number of subscribers, optimization of TD-SCDMA networks becomes more and more urgent and important. However, handover is not only a significant component of radio resource management, but also an extreme important process which guarantees the continuity of mobile communication.In many cases, wireless networks quality have obvious reduction, abnormal handover is the main sticking point as well. Meanwhile, in a brand new TD-SCDMA network, these are lack of maturity optimization method and experience, especially in study on handover problems.In such a case, this paper mainly concerns to the abnormal handovers in TD-SCDMA. Firstly, the paper focuses on trigger conditions and algorithm analysis of handover in TD-SCDMA networks, including system performance index, statistics criteria and signaling flow respectively of baton handover, hard handover, handover between 2G networks and TD-SCDMA. Then, some typical and usual phenomena caused by abnormal handover in TD-SCDMA networks are summarized based on the research and study above, and a set of methods against to these problems are proposed. And later in this paper, by applying to some actual cases, such as intra-system interference and pilot pollution, the effectiveness of the method is verified and the optimization effects are also discussed and analyzed.In this paper, base on the study of abnormal handover, which is one of the most often and important problem in TD-SCDMA networks, a comprehensive analytical procedure and effective solutions are given. The methods proposed in this paper have been applied and proved in daily network optimization works and contribute a lot for the progress of network mobility performance. Furthermore, it also has some reference value to the development and innovation of network optimization in TD-SCDMA.
