In recent years, military communication radios have been experiencing the stage of replacing the older generation, with the rapid development of Chinese military industry. Apparently, the traditional debugging method of radio based testers is unable to meet the current requirement of manufacturing the military communication radios. With the development of test technology, the application of automatic test system in manufacturing process has been attracting the attention from the industry, and the system has been applied in real production to a certain extent.This thesis defines the test requirements of front panel unit of ultra-short wave military radio through analyzing the basic working principle of radio's front panel unit and develops the general planning for automatic test. In the hardware design, in accordance with the demands of measurement voltage, logic function, and audio amplitude etc, select controllable test instruments that possess consistency of measuring accuracy and measuring requirement, and GPIB interface bus, define the system communication protocol. Meanwhile, the author develops the TUA with single-chip microcomputer ATmega128 as the core, channel switching chip and common relays as peripheral circuits. As far as the software, under the Visual Basic 6.0 development environment, apply serial communication based on slip, program device controlling module that are able to be centralized task controlled by Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI), design the friendly operation interface; realize the automatic test of front panel unit and data store at the time of measuring data,.This applied technology of this system in general planning and application is relatively advanced. After finishing the design, the system runs stably, is operated simply, reduces testers'workloads, declines the mistake probabilities, enhances the productive efficiency, saves the enterprises'operation cost, owns regular economic and social effects, and possesses broad prospects for application.
