Light Gauge Finishing Line HM08.1 of Baosteel 2050 Hot Rolling Mill is the euqiment imported in the 1980s from Germany. Because of its aging and poor technology, Light Gauge Finishing Line HM08.1 was completely revamped in 2003.the core of the new line was T400, and it satisfied the demand to some extend. In this paper, the characteristic of run and the manner of control are deeply analyzed.With analysis of the winding tension system based on constant linear speed, the mathematic model of the winding system is constructed. The compensations of dynamic torque (also called the moment of inertia) is discussed in detail. The application of the digital computer control on winding tension system based on constant linear speed is also introduced. Therefore, the problem of system precision on analog control is theoretically solved. Furthermore, with the application of the adaptive control theory, combined with the time-varying parameter rules, an adaptive PID control algorithm is detailedly analyzed and applied to winding tension system. With the help of MATLAB, the model of the adaptive PID control system is simulated. The result of the simulation indicates that the tension precision of the adaptive PID control system is better than that of conventional system. The influence by the time-varying parameter on system is eliminated soundly. With the T400 technology board, the application of the adaptive PID tension control system to push-pull pickling line is further analyzed.
