Tension control technology is widely used in the field of iron and steel industry. How the tension control is realized connects closely with the production efficiency and product quality. With the increasing requirement of product quality, tension control technology attracts more and more attention from electrical engineers in recent years. This paper derives from the project "Baosteel 2050 hot rolling slitter line renovation project". Obtaining the effect of tension control is crucial in increasing persent of pass and improving the product quality. The main mission of automatic control in decoiling process is to keep the constant tension of band steel, which is critical in decoiling process control. This paper selects the decoiler constant tension control system as its main study object.Firstly, hardware equipments that need to be renovated in the control system are introduced, along with the communication and control mode between hardware. Constant tension control principle is also illuminated and the mathematical model is built on it. As to the decoiler control, indirect tension control mode and speed mode are adopted. In the indirect tension control, compensation of dynamic force moment is analyzed and indirect tension control model is built. Then the simulation of the control system is carried out. Secondly, decoiler constant tension control system based on constant linear speed is explained. Afterwards, combining with the variable law of the time-variant parameters, self-adapting PID control algorithm is applied in the tension control system. Also the simulation is carried out in MATLAB. The simulation results show a fine elimination of the system parameter variation.
