With the unceasingly increasing desire of high-quality steels in the market, the ESR has been applied more broadly, and its technology has been tremendously improved. As a kind of refined metallurgy technology, the electroslag furnace has a new characteristic with using double electrode series. The power factor of the ESR is increased to about 0.9 with the series-wound double electrodes loop supplying power, which effectively improves the efficiency and decreases the consumed electricity. The paper is researched based upon practical engineering project. Firstly, the techniques characteristic and equipment configuration of the ESR is introduced, with a focus on analyzing the series-wound double electrodes loop supplying the power.Control scheme is designed according to the particular ESR with hardware and software configured. The Siemens PLC S7-200 and K-TP178Micro Touch Screen are used as the controller and the HMI respectively of the control system, which not only decreases the cost but meets the demand of the production requirement. The mathematic model of the ESR is very difficult to achieved as it is a multi-variety nonlinear strong-coupling time-varying system also with stochastic disturbance. Therefore, it is vital to do research on the key controller of the system in order to get better control results. In this paper, the parameters KP, KI, and KD are online modified with fuzzy control method to adapt to the conditions in actual production. The process of designing the Fuzzy-PID controller is analyzed and investigated in this paper, which serves as a solid preparation and guidance for designing the controller of the ESR in the future.
