With the rapid progress of the Internet, existing forms of the tourism web pages, whose main contents are photos and text, has been far from satisfying the requirements of the tourists. Online virtual tour has been gradually replacing the traditional illustration methods for the tourists to early explore the target scenery. In this thesis, a panoramic virtual tour system is designed and implemented, which is based on panoramic virtual reality technology, image stitching technology and computer vision technology. This thesis has accomplished the following work:(1)Analysis of the functional requirements of the panoramic virtual tour system. Based on the combined B/S and C/S architecture, an efficient, clear, flexible, stable system framework design has been established, which contains the design of the system's overall structure, the electronic map system, and the three-dimensional panoramic system, and other modules.(2) Presents a panorama mosaic algorithm. The algorithm is an integration of the SIFT feature detection, k-d tree feature matching, RANSAC mismatch removal, LMA-based image registration and multi-band image blending. Some appropriate adjustments and improvements are taken on the image registration algorithm to achieve good effectiveness and high performance.(3) Implements a panoramic virtual tour system. The system's internal implementation of each module, the implementation details of the interface between the modules,and the treatment of various special problems are illustrated.Other work also contain development and integration of the automatic panorama stitching tool, the map generation and editing tool, the panorama browser and the web user management module, forming a fully functional panoramic virtual tour system. (4) Tests and analysis of the operational and experimental results of the system. The results show that the proposed method not only ensures the real-time speed requirements, but also meet user's reality requirements of the virtual tour, which achieve excellent results and provide a high running efficiency.The design and implementation of the panoramic virtual tour system has been completed on the basis of related technologies.The research results of the thesis contribute to the promotion of virtual tour, and offer tourists a new experienced way of virtual tour.
