Network Monitoring System Under MRTG Of Nantong Automobile Transportation Group

MRTG is not only a typical SNMP-based passive measuring tool but also a powerful network traffic statistical analysis tools with graphical interface. By calling the external utility program, it can complete the SNMP query, generate GIF graphics and create a HTML page. With this tool, the network manager can quickly find out causes of the failure of the network or equipments.From studying the practical demand and significance of the techonology in network traffic measure, this paper firstly compares and analyzes its fundamental concepts and principles, classifications and standards and several techniques in network traffic measure, and thus draw a conclusion. Then it studies the techonology in detail. On that basis, the SNMP is deeply studied. In the later part of the paper, MRTG, as a network traffic monitoring tool, is used to create a set of net control system, which is examed in conducting the real-time traffic monitoring for the broadband network of Nantong Automobile Transportation Group. And then the results of traffic monitoring are analyzed and some suggestions for improments are presented.The study of MRTG makes it possible for the network manager or user to know well of the state of the running system in real time, thus help the user allocate the system resources and greatly faciliate trouble-locating and trouble-shooting.
