An Analysis On The Publication Of Introduced Children's Picture Books In China (1978-2008)

Picture book is one of the most important kinds of children's books. However, under the influence of traditional values, parents tend to those with more characters when they choose books for kids. With the maturing of the domestic market of books, more and more people began to accept children's picture books, especially the introduced ones. As a result, the related publishing industry began to flourish.With a plenty of bibliography, this paper analyses the publishing information of the introduced children's picture books in detail, including publication scale, origin of copyright, publisher, time to market, format, price, etc. Furthermore, it researches the relationship between various factors, which lead to the exploration of publication environment for such books in china.This paper is divided into three parts:publishing data (chapter 1&2)), industrial environment (chapter 3&4), assessment (chapter 5).In part one, based on a full discussion, "children's picture books" in this paper are defined as a complex of picture books, comics and cartoon books, which meet three requirements as follows:regarding 0-18 year-old children as target market, taking up larger proportion of pictures in books, satisfying people's reading appeals with pictures. In this definition, A large number of related bibliographic data (1978-2008) are collected to analyze the changes in the publication status of introduced children's picture books.Part two studies the external environment and internal environment for the publication of introduced children's picture books between 1978 and 2008. it is clear that the development of the introduction and publication of foreign children's picture books is being mixed in the exploration of the reform and transition of publishing industry, along with the transmutation of various aspects of Chinese society, which is found on the analysis to important factors such as social reading atmosphere, regulation system, foreign exchange environment, renovation of education philosophy, scale of publishing industry, pattern of growth, copyright trade, and so on.At the last part, the publication of introduced children's picture books is evaluated by general publication process to draw lessons from the past. In addition, the bud of local children's picture book has been concerned, as well as the problems of such books in embryo.
