Virtual reality is one of the hot points in technology Virtual reality;multi-media technology and network technology are called as the three best prospects technology of computer technology. With the development of virtual reality technology,virtual reality technology is used more widely,especially in the virtual drive training It is also a hot topic which more and more people pay attention to. In this paper we set tower cranes as example,study the basic theory of virtual reality, summarize the manifestation and the advantage of the virtual reality applying to virtual drive training.Key technologies and the thinking of design of the virtual drive training have been discussed in details.The basic realization method based on 3Ds Max and Virtools was studied in the paper,used the development of 3Ds Max plus Virtools,and Set virtual reality technology as the core.first of all, software Virtools development evirment and five modules are introduced systematically with features and applications of it.And then, builded the 3D-model of tower crane, so as to create a realistic virtual operating environment for the tower crane simulation training system.Finally, using Virtools describe the interactive features of the training system.In this paper,the tower crane training system uses the full three-dimensional scene the realistic scene completely show the real face of tower crane operation.Trainers are exposured to the real scene,and can operate the tower crane according to the actual operation, The tower crane training system meet the training and experiment-teach need essentially,and has great application value for various types of training.Also has made a useful exploration of theory and practice for the development of various of virtual training in the future.
