The Impact Of September 18 Incident On The Newspapers' Editorial

The main subject of this thesis is about how Septemberl8th Incident to have an impact on the newspapers'editorial in content, position and so on.This study analyses the characteristics of Ta Kung Pao's editorial and Social welfare(Yi Shi Bao)'s editorial and the impact of Septemberl8th Incident on the editorials of two newspapers, through the content analysis, data collation and data analysis steps. The study concludes that:Firstly, from contents, after Septemberl8th Incident, the international affairs and the Sino-Japanese relations reports of two newspapers'editorials are on the rise, while the reports on domestic affairs are gradually declining, and the reports on international politics increase greatly. Meanwhile, the attitudes of two newspapers' editorials on Japan have changed, which has considered that the Sino-Japanese conflict gradually becomes the principal contradiction in Chinese society after septemberl8th Incident instead of relative peace; Secondly, the "within three days" reports of two newspapers'editorials show an upward tendency, which proves that the two newspapers'editorials are more fast and timely after septemberl8th Incident; Thirdly, from standing position, the "criticism and against" reports of two newspapers'editorials show a clear downward trend, while the "neutral" reports increase obviously after Septemberl8th Incident; Finally, the "comment" position of the editorials' titles are on a rise after Septemberl8th Incident, while the "agree", "oppose", "proposal", "no attitude" position of the editorials' titles show a dropping tendency.Those changes have reflected that the public opinions, like Ta Kung Pao and Social welfare(Yi Shi Bao), have realized that the national crisis is deteriorating along the time passing; at the same time, they not just emphasize the enemy's barbaric and criticize people's inaction, but analyze the problems and propose the solutions more from an international perspective.
