| Since the 18th session of NPC there is increasing fight and reports against corruption on one hand and very fewer references or books about "eighteen reports since corruption discourse analysis" article on the other. People’s Daily, as one of the world’s ten major newspapers, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and its authority and influence can’t be denied, and its anti-corruption discourse approach is more worthy of study.In this paper,385 pieces of anti-corruption reports are sampled from People’s Daily from November 8,2012 to November 8,2014 and classified according to types, layout, administrative level and districts as well as administrative areas. The law and discourse characteristics of anticorruption reports are further revealed following Vatican news· Dick theoretical discourse analysis framework at three levels, macro text analysis, microstructure analysis and rhetorical style analysis. As a result, the deficiencies of reports against corruption in People’s Daily are detected, and suggestions to improve corresponding reports are presented.We find that the news against corruption in People’s Daily is very serious. The law of these reports is the following:the major style among anticorruption reports is news whose main type is message. Nearly half of them focused on the important ones. Types and layout of news are widely distributed. And news also covers wide areas, in which the top three provinces are Guangdong, Chongqing and Hubei. Corruption of high-level officers is paid more attention by People’s Daily. Discourse features of anti-corruption news are:news did not express views and reported objectively. Long reports are feature-length, short-paragraph and short-sentences. Anti-corruption reports advocate concise expression; the topics are negative. Opening of reports varies greatly. However, there are some shortages and room to improvement in news reports of People’ s Daily. For example, the coverage of reviews news is inadequate, and some column co mments can be increased appropriately, such as editorials, articles manuscripts and read er comments concerning corruption. The following recommendations have been propos ed. To strengthen the lower administrative level regions to improve the local governmen t reported supervision. Enhancing the supervision over three parts:real estate, transporta tion and universities, and make corruption in these three sectors be decreased under high pressure. To increase the reports in the South China, Southwest and East regions is also urgent. In addition, it is necessary to increase the positive reports properly which can en hance people’s confidence in the anti-corruption and so on. |
