VSS (Video Surveillance System) is widely used in many areas with intuitive, real-time and content-rich information. Compared with the traditional VSS, Embedded Video Surveillance System is more appropriate in modern times with small size, less energy consumption and high reliability. At the same time, the system also could achieve remote monitoring with Internet.Aiming at the status of VSS currently and the demand of remote monitoring, this design exploits the embedded video surveillance system, which is based on the platform of ARM9 microprocessor. Through transmitting the real-time video by Internet and the image by GPRS wireless networks, it could improve the accuracy of monitoring information and the degree of freedom of video monitor.The paper analysised the embedded video surveillance system and researched all kinds of systems. In view of the status of video surveillance systems, the overall design select suitable modules finally, including video capture camera, embedded microprocessor, embedded operating systems and remote monitoring programs. The paper completed the hardware modules design and transplanted embedded system kernel and designed device driver of modules.The article described the design of IIC and DMA modules under Linux system. By configuring TVP5150, which is a chip of external video AD, the analog signals of camera will change into YUV which is digital signals. Then the YUV transform into RGB565 image format and write the data into the Camera module of S3C2440A. The LCD can fully display the video signal which collected by the camera. The system transmits video packet data by network, achieving the embedded WEB server remote monitoring. If the monitoring center receives the warning, it will require upload pictures by GPRS until the end signal received. It ensures the reliability and security of data by way of GPRS and Internet.
