Nowadays, remote image monitoring system attracts more and more attention owing to its visualizability and convenience, which are more suitable for the field of energy, transportation, water conservancy and national defense etc. But the traditional image monitoring system is a single image monitoring system which mainly relies on the wired transmission, and this system is unable to meet the complex application environment. In light of this problem, a image surveillance system based on wireless transmission technology is designed. The system solved the problems of difficult wired transmission and its high costs. Furthermore, this paper has put forward the viewpoint of adding the image processing technology in the system to increase the efficiency.In this paper, it firstly introduced the whole frame of the remote image monitoring system. It presented a design scheme of wireless data transmission based on the technology which combines Zig Bee with GPRS. Second, the design of software and hardware had been described. The hardware of the system consists of image acquisition module, Zig Bee module, GPRS module and Gateway controller module. The four modules are unified by right selection and interface circuit design of each module. In terms of software, it was classified by the implementation of each module. This paper mainly completed the design of serial communication program and wireless communication program in and between each module. Specifically, the software program includes the Zig Bee terminal node program, the Zig Bee coordinator node program and the gateway controller program. Then upon this foundation,the wireless communication protocol based on application layer was proposed to realize data communication between different wireless networks. Finally, experimental results confirmed the implementation of each module’s and the system’s function.In addition, this paper had done some research on the image matching technology to further improve the system efficiency. The complexity of the classical SURF in feature detection is high, which easily generate the false matching problem in smooth region. Then the method of replacing the fast Hessian detection by the improved FAST detector is used. The improved algorithm reduced the system complexity and raised speed and accuracy. In the end, simulation experiment proved that the improved algorithm’s performance is better than the original one and therefore the former is more suitable for the remote image monitoring system.
