WCDMA has already entered the formal commercial stage in China. As the market demand for the WCDMA terminals growing rapidly, it will inevitably bring about the urgent need to terminal test system. RF conformance testing as the core and key terminal test, it is especially important for it's researching and designing.The author took part in the researching and building up of WCDMA terminal RF conformance test set. The test set is mainly used for WCDMA terminal R&D and production testing, which integrates and achieves the functions of WCDMA system simulator, broadband vector modulation signal generator and RF signal analyzer. The architecture of test set is designed based on virtual instrument, and the algorithm is developed on virtual instrument software LabVIEW 7.1. Virtual instrument is the new technology and development of testing field, which combines modular hardware, development software and PC technology that allows users to create custom instruments through software. In the project, author is mainly responsible for the design of WCDMA signal test algorithms, implementing all RF conformance testing cases of radio transmition according to 3GPP TS 34.121.This paper especially describes the design and investigation of WCDMA terminal test system.The main contents of this paper are organized as below:(1) Introduces the WCDMA system development and technical characteristics, as well as the WCDMA terminal test set status and trends of development in both domestic and.(2) Analyses the functional requirements of WCDMA terminal test set, proposed a whole project of teminal test set based on virtual instrument, and gives the hardware and the softwore structure.(3) Introduces the WCDMA physical layer knowledge, which is required to describe details of the WCDMA signal spread and modulation process. Analyses the power spectral estimation and frequency offset estimation method, which is need for the test algorithm. It's preparing for the realization of the test set. (4) Analyses the relevant provisions according to 3GPP TS 34.121 V4.0.0, including the definition, test process and test requirement of the main transmitter. Describeds the measurement process and algorithm.(5) Realizes the algorithm on each test based on virtual instrument software LabVIEW 7.1. Finally an experiment is made on the test items in a simulative terminal test environment.Contents of this paper has been applied to the design and realization for the WCDMA terminal test set. At present, the test algorithm has been through laboratory testing, test results show stable and can satisfy the needs of terminal RF conformance testing.
