Ding Jing Tang is one of the best Editors and Publishers of contemporary publishing. More than 60 years of his life was tied with editing. Particularly, during serving as president of the Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House, he photocopyed a large number of historical data, arranged and compiled some influential works, such as "China's New Literature Series" Second Series (1927-1937). Having cultivated and discoverd a large number of new literatures, such as Yuan Ying, Zuo Xuan, etc. He and the followings made a great contribution to the improvement of the Chinese editorial work. With 60 years editorial practice, he has accumulated abundant experience, formed its own unique style of editing and editorial ideas. Based on the editorial practice studying of Ding Jing Tang, this article is to probe into his main achievements and main working ideas, in hoping of having implications for the current editing.This paper is divided into five sections. Introduction, the origin of this subject, its value and research methods, and summarization of the previous studies. Part I : Introduction to the editorial activities of Ding Jing Tang. (A) the work before 1949, editing newspapers and periodicals. (B) arraging historical materials in literature in 50's. (C) in the 1970s , "New Chinese Literature Series" Second Series (1927-1937) . (D) editing and publishing the work on Lu Xun, Qu Qiubai and the "Left". Part II: Promoting editing and publishing disciplines. (A) taking into account the collect ion and the arrangement of the historical materials in publication.(B) devoting himself to press and proposing exploring the issue theory.. Part III: Ding Jing Tang editorial ideas and editing style. (A) a strong sense of preservitng historical document. (B) the essence of the spirit of the literary heritage .(C) rigorous scholarship, editing seriously. (D) focus on communication and maintain the friendship with the author. Part IV: Ding Jing Tang Editorial Thoughts Inspiration. (A) close to the social reality, the press attention to social benefits. (B) stress on the cultivation of new literature. (C) Editor have a unique theme of consciousness. (D) indifferent to fame and fortune, the courage to sacrifice. Part V: Concluding Remarks, summarizing the life-long success of Ding Jing Tang, it is hoped that in the current market economy Ding Jing Tang Editorial Ideology and experience can have implications for today's editorial work.
