As a form of news commentary, editorial commentary has the general function of cognitive and education. Considering that editorial represents newspaper collectives, media, parties and social groups, editorials are more authoritative, political, ideological, and directive. The famous American journalist Pulitzer called editorial “the heart of the newspaper”.Journalism review writing method is the basic principle how authors observe, recognize, and analyze the reality of social life and how they transfer their thinking, their views or opinions about public affairs to the audience. The transferring does not depend on a strict logical deduction but on the gradual acknowledge of the operation, practice and experience in journalist career. The works ultimately reflects all the methods. I select the 2005-2014 China News Award winning editorials(total 30) and Pulitzer Prize winning editorials(total 80) as the basic text materials. By reading and comparing I try to explore the thinking and writing methods hidden in the commentators. In this article, I combine the text analysis research method and the comparative cultural journalism research method together. From the perspective of the politic and culture I try to discover some differences between China and American news commentary writing method, emphasizing the influence of ideology and culture on news commentating. Editorials written differences widely exist in China and US. To the gap, we have to make up as much as possible, for the differences, we should be wary of thinking either-or binary opposition, and move forward based on Chinese characteristics.
