Diagnosis of Fieldbus technology refers to Analyzing the data caught from the Fieldbus system, descripting the system working conditions, by which the observer can take relative measure to lift failures. As field stage of industrial network, PROFIBUS fault diagnosis directly determines the level of overall system reliability. With the importance of fault diagnosis, more and more applications of fieldbus manufacture take higher demands of the fault diagnosis. The research of remote diagnosis system which is low cost, better reliability, user-friendly become a host spot.In this paper, based on the PROFIBUS technology, a typical PROFIBUS network is set up. On this basis, two ways of remote diagnosis system are analyzed: remote diagnosis based on PC and OPC technology, remote diagnosis based on embedded device. The method of realizing the remote Diagnosis based on embedded device if mainly descripted in this paper. Its main contribution lies in the hardware design of embedded devices, the design of appropriate diagnostic procedures and communication procedures, such as the identity of PROFIBUS-DP bus cycle, diagnostic information extraction and interpretation, Socket Client/Server programming, as well as human-machine interface design, etc. The design catches system data through remote diagnosis based on embedded devices, verifies the feasibility of the method for the diagnosis of PROFIBUS-DP system. The first part of this paper introduces PROFIBUS technology, compares the advantages and disadvantages of the two remote diagnosis systems, elaborates the signification of the research, and put forward the problem to be solved. The second part of this paper introduces the hardware architecture of the two remote diagnostic systems. The third part of this paper focus on the software design of the remote diagnosis based on embedded device. In part 4, a tested remote diagnosis system is set up to verify the feasibility of the above-mentioned methods. Finally, the summaries and prospects of this paper are made.
