A Commentary On Luo Jialun's Thought About Journalism

Luo Jialun was one of the leaders of the famous Xinchao magazine in the May fourth period. He was also one of the main leaders of the May 4th Movement. He took Xinchao as the battle field again the old Chinese institutions. Xinchao, the first students'magazine of Beijing University, was an outstanding periodical which under the care of Luo Jialun and his fellows. They claimed themselves as the new force of the so called Renaissance of China and hoped to construct a new China by introducing ideas and knowledge from the West.By strongly attacked the feudal institutions of moral, despotic culture and other social problems, the magazine was getting more and more popular and was considered as one of the most influential publications.Luo Jialun, whom was wrong treated as a politically figure for some known reasons, had advocated to improve the practices of journalist and given some disciplines for the press. Some of his views which criticized the press still have positive effects today.
