In 1834, On Newspaper, the first article on Journalism written in Chinese was published. This was an important symbol for the initiation of Chinese study on Journalism.At the beginning, most Journalist researches in China were presented in Chinese newspaper established by foreigners, such as Dongxiyangkao meiyuetongjizhuan, shenbao, Chinese Global Magazine (wanguo gongbao). Those sparkling ideas were very significant to the enlightenment of Chinese academic thoughts on Journalism. Then, some scholars or politician played a role in the development of Chinese academic thoughts on JournalismThree important personalities were discussed. The first one is Wang Tao, who was the pioneer in Chinese Journalism. His influence is very apparent on the followers including Zheng Guanying and Wang Kangnian. The second one, Liang Qichao, was the great summarist on Chinese academic research on Journalism. His words on the function and position of Newspaper presses, on the current situation of Chinese media, on the idea of "Perfect Newspaper" were all important materials in this field. The third one, Wang Kangnian, was an initiator, too, whose opinion and innovation on Journalism in China was also worth our attention. The period mentioned in the thesis was significant in the history of Chinese newspaper. However, the Chinese academic research on Journalism then also exhibited some flaws. Anyway, the period provided the important preparation for the coming summit on Chinese academic research on Journalism.In short, this thesis, by combing the important literatures in this field from the incipiency, attempts to find the clue of the development of Chinese academic research on Journalism. It sorts out the mainstream of most thoughts at that time and focuses on the period from the Middle of Daoguang(1834) to the end of Xuantong(1911) and depicts the frame of the change and development of Early Chinese academic thoughts on Journalism. At the same time, the thesis is concerned with the significant influence on and penetration in the field of Journalism as well as the social customs, ideology and politics.
