Visual communication design of multimedia electronic magazine is a newly promoted form of artistic design, which varies tremendously from the traditional magazine design in a series of aspects, such as content, form and aesthetic psychology. The most renowned feature of this new member of artistic design family is its unique interactivity that changes from passive to active the way for recipients to uptake information, which embodies the person-oriented design conception. In this paper, a systematic analysis was performed starting from a review of the development of multimedia electronic magazine, followed by an investigation on the difference between the design of electronic and traditional magazines and the research on multimedia magazine design factors (e.g. visual factors, visual characteristics, design principles, production process) and impacts from their innovation with the emphasis on multimedia application (video, audio, animation, movie). In the end, a disadvantages summary on visual communication design of multimedia electronic magazine was given. Besides, the analysis on readers' visual psychology and visual performance features of multi-media electronic magazine was also included in this paper.
