Shen Bao's Consciousness Of Caring People's Livelihood From Its Disaster Reports

China was in the cracks of internal and external problems, in the Period of Late Qing. On the one hand, domestic political turmoil, and Imperialism intensified aggression against China; on the other hand, according to various historical records, famine never stop in China in this period, in which disasters happened almost every year. No matter was natural disasters or man-made disasters, People could't stand suffering. At the same time, Shanghai became a transportation hub from north to south quickly with its unique geographical advantage at that time, thus became the country's commercial center. In this case, known as" the first Press in the modern sense", Shen Bao was born. And gradually developed into"A model of commercial paper", it attached great importance to social news as a model of commercial paper. As a major social event, disaster reports related to the survival of each individual, and it occupied a pivotal position naturally in Shen Bao. Disaster reports of Shen Bao worked for people who suffering in pain. It exposed government abuses that occur during disaster relief, or called the community participation in disaster relief. It did a well sense of people's livelihood care.This article is divided into four chapters. Through the analysis of 1872-1908's nearly fourty years disaster reports, it investigates welfare of the people awareness that included in the disaster reports published on Shen Bao, and it also discuss links of welfare of the people awareness and the current livelihood news.The first chapter mainly described the two-pronged approach. Firstly, it discussed the frequency and serious of Famine in the late Qing period. Secondly, as the newspaper philosophy and operational characteristics, Shen Bao in the Major's period placed great emphasis on the disaster reports, and it had the advantage that the other newspapers could't compare. This advantage is not only because of its strategic location, but also of its major payed attention to the famine reports, and the development of its profession and its impact and so on.In the second chapter, the author combed the disaster reports of last 40 years (1872-1908), found that it showed a great attention to the flood, drought, epidemic, plague of locusts and so on, and had a large number. It's a manifestation of people's livelihood concern consciousness. It also summarizes people's livelihood concern consciousness of the six performances. For example, it payed a high sympathetic on the production and living of the people. On the sympathy of the living conditions of vulnerable groups, Supervised the government disaster relief, etc, and analyzes the reasons of this consciousness.The third chapter selected three cases combination of famine history. These are "dingwu Rare famine ","a large section of the Yellow River in Zhengzhou collapse in 1887 "and" Yangtze River flood in 1906". Each case is divided into two stages by famine in the development process, disaster showing and disaster relief. Also according to report form, the former is divided into two aspects of reporting and famine comments, and the latter is divided into two aspects of Relief reports and Relief Comments. It attempt to study how Shen Bao performanced welfare of the people awareness, and summary the change of welfare of the people awareness after 1905.The fourth chapter discussed the relationship of people's livelihood concern consciousness and today's news of the people's livelihood and to further explored the meaning of disaster reports to today.
