The radar signal source is an important component of modern radar systems. As an indispensable component for a radar, the radar signal source is of great importance for improving the overall performance of the radar system. Direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDS), a new frequency synthesis technology, has found an increasingly wide application in the radar system design in resent years and almost replaced the conventional frequency systhesis technologies.Firstly, this paper introduces the principle of frequency synthesis, also discusses the differences, advantages and disadvantages among methods of frequency synthesis. According to the characteristics of DDS, the board of radar signal source based on FPGA+DAC structure is developed. Then the hardware structure and the layout of system are briefly introduced, focusing on the chip selection and the board design. Secondly, this thesis thoroughly analyzes the logical design process of DDS module, and puts more emphasis on the analysis of the sine value table and the phase accumulator design which is processed by ROM data compression. Thirdly, the thesis makes a futher optimization of DDS module for the LFM(linear FM signal), and proposes a concept of high-speed DDS module design. Finally, summaries and prospects of the future study are given.
