| The public discourse space in mass media, as an important common platform, is a barometer of public discourse right, also relates to the solution of people's livelihood problem.Based on discourse theory and content analysis theory, the paper analyze people's livelihood news about Guangzhou in Nanfang City Daily from 2002 to 2008. This dissertation probes into the features of the existence of public discourse in Nanfang City Daily as well as its changes under the influence of changing policies. Compared with mere theory and general analysis on the issue, this quantitative research leads to more convincing and detailed data by the form and content analysis on a specific case.The paper find that, in general, the quality of people's livelihood news is not identical with the gradually strengthened polices on livelihood issues. First, the media have a certain initiative, however, the right size largely depends on accurate timing. Before and after the NPC and CPPCC sessions, public discourse in media are usually more active, watchdog coverage of people's livelihood have a corresponding increase, and the media become a positive driving force of the realization of discourse rights. Second, the authority of official discourse is still solid, remains very restrictive to the public discourse. Pubic discourse space on the livelihood is squeezed when the official discourse has a strong performance. Finally, the public has serious phenomenon of aphasia and absence, so their discourse space is compressed, the exercising of public discourse right is in a very disadvantaged position, not to mention its realization. Also, the paper finds some good reference methods, such as increasing the coverage length, improving the diversity of coverage subject, enhancing the proportion of negative reports, focusing on the individual nature of the public, with specific and clear public language and role. |
