The media industry in China has been grown rapidly since China implemented its open-door economic policy more than 30 years. It becomes more and more influential in China's economic, politic and cultural life. As one of the most effective ways for industry development, capital operation has been the focus of the media industry.This paper first reviews the basic theories in media and capital operation, and summarizes the capital operation theories in media industry. After reviewing the development of media industry in China and current situation of capital operation in China's media industry, this paper then points out some of the existing capital operation problems in the industry, such as out-to-date ideas, lack of systematic approach, and lack of self-regulation. Based on the above analysis, this paper also makes some policy recommendations to tackle the existing capital operation problems in China's media industry, such as improving property right protection, widening the financing channel, establishing valuation institutions, implementing self-regulation.
