A Research On Chen Jinghan's Timely Comments

Chen Jinghan was an influential journalist in the late Qing Dynasty and modern China, also a famous novelist and a translator. He was been as chief editor of the newspaper of Eastern Times and Shen Bao. He initiated the column of timely comment, which had a profound influence. His timely comments was sharp and stern, It directly pointed out the evil of the society, the corruption of the government and the ills of the people, and promoted the Eastern Times and the Shen Bao into golden period of historical development.The dissertation takes Chen's timely comments as the research object, which published in the newspaper of Eastern Times and Shen Bao. According to the basic factors of news commentary, through the text analyzing and the comparison analyzing, to analyze his timely comments and his experience, character, the special historical environment. Though this analysis, the author will try to generalize the characteristics of Chen's timely comments, to dig reasons of these different characteristic in the different period, Also investigate the significance of his timely comments in the special period, then evaluate his status in Chinese news history exactly and objectively.The dissertation is divided into five parts. The first part concerns Chen's experience in journalism. The author will summarize his contribution on the press for nearly forty years. Part two concentrates on analyzing the development of Chen's timely comment. Form a vertical perspective, the author generalizes the evolution of Chen's timely comments in the newspaper of Eastern Times and Shen Bao. Part three summarizes the characteristic of his timely comments. From a horizontal perspective, the author elaborates the characteristics and style of his timely comments. Part four analyzes the reason why his timely comments are different, It includes the interior and exterior reasons. The last part reveals the significance of his timely comments and his contributions to Chinese news history.
