Chen Han Commentary Studies Northern Warlord Period

Setting up the background to the modern history of China-the period of the Northern Warlords setting up a separatist regime by force of arms, which is from1916, Yuan Shikai’s dying in Beijing, to1928, Zhang Xueliang’s "Replacing the Northeast Flag", the author investigated the research by the chief editor Chen Jinghan from <shenbao>, picking up his commentary on current events published on <shenbao> between1919and1928, to analyze the character of Chen Jinghan’s comment and the saving the nation’s thought in the comment.After studying all chenjing han’s life, the Northern Warlords and the commentary written by Chen Jinghan, the author found that the comment published between1919to1928had a significant difference from other writers’ comment. The author states that it is because of Chen Jinghan’s experience, surroundings and his own personality. Meanwhile, the author found that the research about the Chen Jinghan’s life and facts of the Northern Warlords is very few.Therefore, the author has to combines Chen Jinghan’s life and several important events during beiyang junfa period, to conclude that Chen Jinghan’s commentary on those current event was changing. His writing has turned from slightly offensive to defensive. Even though Chen Jinghan’s style changed from short and offensive to long and ambiguous, readers can still see Chen Jinghan as a newspaper man, his thoughts about the country, the society and its people.
