Study On The Commentary Of The Eastern Times

The Eastern Times of Shanghai is one of the influential national dailies in modern China,it is famous for its business innovations,and commentary is one of the most influential innovations.It has set up commentary columns called “Commentary one”, “Commentary two”, “Commentary three”,which corresponding to important news,region news and local news respectively.Its language short and sharp,and wrote by Chen Jinghan,Bao Tianxiao and LeiFen.The innovation of form and content makes the commentary popular in the press,and other newspapers follows to set commentary column like it,which makes the commentary become one of the mature style of the press in China.This paper using the historical text analytical method,takes the Eastern Times as the basic research object,according to the Kang Liang period(1904-1908),DiBaoXian period(1908-1921), Huang Bohui period(1921-1939) in three different manager, to research on the commentary of The Eastern Times systematically,analyze the commentary’s historical background,development as well as its lead authors,analyze their writing style and its influence on the development of the commentary.The results shows that the commentary of the Eastern Times is not only one of the important business innovations,it is more important in the the development of Chinese news-commentary style,it also has produced profound influence to the process of Chinese news at that time.
