In the last few years, academic researches on the Republic of China became more and more important. At the same time, the history from 1945 to 1949 also became a focus in the related study. In this background, Chu Anping and his Observer Weekly attracted the attention of a growing number of scholars.In this paper, the author will use the theory of public sphere to study on the Observer magazine, trying to show how this magazine build the public domain in whole new perspective. The author selected magazines from 1946 to 1948 as research object, then analyzes the texts with the qualitative methods, such as the background, the readers, the authors, contents and so on. Based on these analyses, we found that the Observer Weekly has the following characteristics. In economics, it was non-party. In contents, the journal was about politics with critical attitude all the time. What's more, the magazines' authors came from different industries, and readers were all over the country. In all these characteristics showed that the Observer Weekly builds a public domain successfully. Finally, the author summarized the positive impact and limitations of the journal, and prospects of the enlightenment to modern journalism.
