Habermas, Public Sphere Theory And The Chinese Public Domain Construct

The problem of public sphere is a hot issue in today's academia, different scholars have studied and elaborated in this problem from different angles. Habermas inherited and developed the idea of the public sphere,he writed a famous works——"the structural transformation of the public sphere". In this works, he gives a systematic introduction of the public sphere theory. Therefore, in order to study the issue of the public sphere, we have to analysis and interpret Habermas' public sphere theory. Habermas gives a classic definition on the connotation of the public sphere, and think it is a area of social life, between country and society, and people can express their views freely and participate in social management in this area. He introduced its history, internal structures, functions, operation mechanism and structural transformation and so on. He constructed a large and complex theory, which became the basis of study of western society.Habermas'public sphere theory has its a larger referential significance for understanding the social reality in our country. We analyze the situation in our country and solve practical problems, which must be based on China's national conditions. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analysis and interprets Habermas'public sphere theory through the application of Marxist philosophy viewpoint and methods from a philosophical perspective. It gives some constructive suggestions to build reasonable public sphere. Based on such a train of thought,the paper is divided into the following four major parts:Chapter I,preface. This chapter describes the research background, the research objectives and the significance, the research status,the research methods and so on.Chapter II,the multi-dimensional perspective of Habermas' public sphere theory. This chapter gives analysis about the theoretical connotation from multi-dimension,including the concept and identity of the public sphere,the constituent elements and the basic functions, the basic premises and the operation mechanism,the structural transformation and so on. Chapter III,the two sides characteristics of Habermas'public sphere theory. This section first discusses the root causes, the fundamental nature and the core values. then it further analysis the two sides role of the public sphere,the positive features and limitations of the theory.Chapter IV,the inspiration of Habermas'public sphere theory. It demonstrates the Chinese public sphere's realities,basic characteristics and reality's plight. Then it reveals the theory's significance and inspiration to China's development. In the end,the paper points out the basic principles, theoretical ideas and the path of reality to construct the public sphere of China. During the process of constructing the public sphere,we must take notice of playing its active and positive role to avoid its negative,destructive effect,based on Chinese history and culture,the social tradition and the practical reality,to construct the public sphere which conforms to China's national conditions.
