Study On Online Talk Show U Can U Bibi In Search Of Chinese Public Sphere Discourse Construction

The development of new media technology has provided a broader platform for free public discussion.Inter-personal links are more easily constructed through the Internet,which has inspired Western society to rethink about the construction of Habermas' s ideal public sphere.As product invented via the network media,the talk show has been confirmed with its value through scholars' research on its discourse and operation mechanism.Aside from this,the social significance for public discussion is identified in talk show.The paper intends to investigate the real-time practice of the influence exerted by talk shows on public sphere formation within the new media context.Based on the research,the paper explores the potential public sphere formation via analysis of the audience's comments of U can U Bibi(Qi Pa Shuo).Through the conceptual framework provided by Habermasian public sphere and its critical theories including emotional public sphere and agonistic public sphere,the paper explores the construction of potential public sphere that may form in the context of Chinese society.The research design is made based on measurement of three dimensions of public sphere discourse construction in the Chinese talk show including topic,discourse feature and feature of public sphere.The result shows that the online discourse construction of U can U Bibi(Qi Pa Shuo)shows certain degree of civility and rationality.The viewers of the talk show express more positive emotion when expressing their opinions on i Qiyi,where the show airs.Secondly,in terms of taking stance,the audiences of U can U Bibi show high degree of hesitance,which means they are less inclined to take their stance on the opinion expressed in the program.The viewers of the talk show U can U Bi Bi show a relatively cautious attitude.Above all,the Chinese talk show U can U Bi Bi constructs online discourse which is mostly close to emotional public sphere.
