The Research Of Gender Awareness In Sports News Between China And Japan

The gender imbalance in sports news has existed for a long time. As a kind of sports news, Olympic sports news has its specialties:media from different countries focus on these events; the number of male and female athletes with a relatively balanced ratio of entries which the Olympic Games wrapped folder into the viewing audiences of many usually not concerned about the female audience of sports news. So in their reports, media should pay more attentions about the needs of female audience. This makes the Olympic sports news has both specialties and representations. In Olympic Games which relate to "gender balance", there are gender imbalance or not in sports news? Different countries' (China and Japan) Olympic sports news transfer same gender consciousness? Is "gender imbalance" of sport news is a "worldwide phenomenon" which across national boundaries and cultures. If there are differences, what makes that?According questions in above, this thesis focus on the news of Asahi Shimbun's "5 Series" from August 8 to 25,2008 Journal and of People's Daily's "Olympic Special" in the same period, selects the sports news and pictures on the quantitative and qualitative analysis, and we get two main conclusions. First, comparing with normal sports news, in Olympics which relate to "gender balance", the Olympic sports news reports reached a basic balance on male and female players, but in the texts there is a gap from the real "gender equality" in the news revealed the traditional gender stereotypes. This is the same to normal sports news, and the situations are showed both in Asahi Shinbun and People's Daily with universality. Second, the Olympic sports news shows different images of women between China and Japan. In People's Daily, the women are stronger, and more on the cause of the pursuit of self-understanding of the future and more clearly. This is related to the "ideal woman" that constructed by social culture of China and Japan. Japan's "good wives and mothers" thinking that to some extent to maintain a male-centrism and cultural, and continuously replicate and strengthen the traditional image of gentle women; and in China, "women hold half of the sky" thinking has been to encourage women to go outside to find their own social value.
