The computer technology has been the one of the key technologies in the development of industrial community. In the products manufacture, the use of the virtual reality technology has been widely concerned by some scholars. The research of virtual design, virtual manufacture and virtual assembly has appeared and has been used in products manufacture, some achievements have been obtained. Virtual assembly is the comprehensive application of technology such as simulation, modeling and virtual reality. The simulation on the process from the produce design to the product manufacture has been conducted so as to shorten product development period, reduce cost, optimize the product design, improve the production manufacturing efficiency and play a use of product training and teaching. In this paper, it establishes a basic frame of a virtual assembly system on the base of detailed research about key technologies and a realized method of virtual assemble process, and completes primary development of the software system.The concept of virtual assembly and the present status at home and abroad are introduced in this paper. The major contents of the virtual assembly and the basic process, the development environment, the key technology of virtual assembly system design are described in details. The acquisition method about virtual assembly model is induced and summarized; the model conversion mechanism between CAD and DIVISION Mockup solves the converting problem of non-standard format between them.In this paper, it makes assembly process planning on mechanical product and does some research on its realized process, which using Division Mockup as the virtual assembly platform, which contains establishments of virtual assembly model, assembly order planning, collision and interference checking, assembly simulation animation and process documents generation. The animation could make operators acknowledge structure of mechanical products much more clearly and intuitively, so as to improve work efficiency. Finally, it develops virtual assembly system software of mechanical products with a independent interface with the CAD product instance of a pneumatic turbocharger. The software contains function with parametric modeling of pneumatic turbocharger's key parts, with management on pneumatic turbocharger model and with reservoir inflow of model information, so that it makes data conversion from CAD system to virtual scene, assembly process planning and product assembly learning and teaching come true.
