Interactivity is a key feature of virtual environment. Data-glove based virtual handinteraction technology can provide a natural and efficient way for human-computerinteraction. Now, the technology has become a hot topic in the study of virtual reality andhuman-computer interaction. Based on the actual demand of virtual assembly anddisassembly of mechanical products, some of key technical problems are further studied, suchas virtual hand modeling, definition and identification of virtual hand gestures, collisiondetection and constraint guidance, etc. The data-glove based interactive prototype system ofvirtual assembly and disassembly for mechanical products is constructed. The main contentsof this thesis are summarized as follows:(1) According to the physiological skeletal features and the movement characteristics ofhuman hand, the static virtual hand model is established. In order to control the movement ofvirtual hand, the motion mapping relationships among virtual hand, data glove and positiontracker are established. The position control of virtual hand is realized in the process ofmovement.(2) By referring to the structure characteristics of general mechanical parts and thegestures of human hand when grabbing the mechanical parts, four types of hand gestures aredefined according to the four major types of mechanical products. And the algorithms ofgesture recognition and grabbing virtual parts steadily are also proposed.(3) For the collision detection and constraint guidance during virtual assembly anddisassembly, some concrete solutions are proposed. According to the depth of the detectedinterference between virtual parts in the process of collision detection, tactile feedback isachieved, and the information of force feedback is provided.(4) Choose SolidWorks as the modeling tool and the platform of virtual assembly anddisassembly, a data-glove based interactive prototype system of virtual assembly anddisassembly for mechanical products is constructed based on Visual Studio,CyberGlove SDKand FASTRAK SDK. Experimental results are verified in the process of virtual assembly anddisassembly of typical mechanical parts.
