The mobile soft-switching technology is one of the key technologies in core networks. It adopts the architecture with two independent control and bearer to provide layered network performing different functions. However, there are many network quality problems in 2G/3G network based on mobile soft-switching, which lead to poor QoS and operation efficiency. So it is necessary to analyze various network parameters and indicators, and then to improve network operation efficiency and QoS to make good use of available network resource.At the beginning of this thesis, the research background, the notion and the network model of mobile soft-switching technology are introduced. The application of soft-switching in WCDMA is described. And then R4 network is introduced, including the interfaces between network elements and related protocols. Furthermore, the optimized architecture in the core network is described, including resource capability indicators and key performance indicators. What's more, paging success rate and location update success rate in key performance indicators are presented in detail, which represent network access and holding in mobile communications.The most important parameters are paging success rate and location update success rate. Analysis is based on actual office data which has a great number of subscribers and traffic load but lower indicator values. Identify the failure reasons, analyze the impact to KPI, modify the parameters and make optimization to improve KPI. Finally, some optimization limits in the core network are analyzed.
