Low power Line Communication (L-PLC) automatic meter reading system is an intelligent management system which takes the low-power line as the media in communication, and uses sensing, communication, computer network technology to read and deal with the users'power information. This technology takes full use of the existing Low-power line resources and is easy to connect with the power management system without reconstructing the lines. And the system attracted widespread attention in the field of automatic meter reading.This paper designs an automatic meter reading system based on the power line carrier communication system. Firstly, based on research and analysis of the current automatic meter reading technology, and determines power line carrier communication technology as the key method in this design. Secondly, the general design of the power line carrier AMR is made, and the functional design, hardware design and software programming of the composing modules is achieved. Then the paper makes an in-depth exploration and optimization of the carrier meter communication modules, and completes the construction of the carrier AMR communication module's prototype production. Communication testing is performed by the prototype with the low-power line, and the result shows that the success rate of the module in the communication can satisfy the requirement of AMR. Finally, considering the problem in the experiment, the discussion is made on the technology methods to promote the reliability of carrier communication.
