Design And Development Of Embedded PVR System Based On ADTB-T Signals

Compared to analog TV technology, Digital television technology has abundant advantages. With the successful holding of Beijing Olympic Games and the forthcoming Shanghai World Expo, China's digital TV industry has acquired a new developing opportunity. Based on the increasing popularity of ADTB-T programs in major cities across the country, the latest HDTV sets will come into prevalence, while traditional analog TV sets will be phased out. It is definitely cost-efficient to enjoy free terrain HDTV programs by using a HDTV STB. But due to the lack of HDTV program resources nowadays in our country, consumers would undoubtedly prefer STBs that also support SDTV signals. The current development trend is to enable richer user experience and more human-computer interaction, and such typical applications include EPG and PVR technologies, which allow users more freedom and participation.This paper introduces a new PVR system using either HDTV or SDTV ADTB-T signals based on the embedded HDTV STB. The details are as follows:1) Uses the digital TV EPG technology to provide users with the interface to look over program information, and therefore realizes good human-computer interaction.2) Designs easy-to-use interface in the light of the resource-lacking characteristic of the STB platform, and achieves a beautiful graphical user interface by optimizing the color scheme.3) Designs abundant HDTV playing and recording modes, with the use of audio and video synchronization technology, caching, EPG technology and pre-record entries in technology, in line with system hardware such as the clock board and large-capacity hard disk.4) Improves the EXT3 file system in line with the contradiction between continuous high-speed read and write hard disk operations and possible poor working environment, and this has been tested to have an effective enhancement on the system reliability.The PVR system shows stable recording and broadcasting performance in the test and practical application. HDTV STBs adopting this system have been put on the market ahead of other manufacturers, and upgraded based on user feedback.
